First-launch checklist
The first time you open TrackDyno, walk through these steps so the app has what it needs to measure accurately:
- Accept the safety / legal disclaimer.
- Grant Location permission (While Using is fine for most modes).
- Grant Motion & Fitness permission.
- Grant Microphone permission (only needed for dyno mode RPM tracking).
- Open the Vehicle tab and fill in curb weight, driver weight, drag coefficient, frontal area, gear ratios, and tire size. The HP estimate is only as good as these inputs.
- Run Settings → Sensor Diagnostics with the phone resting on a flat surface to confirm the IMU is calibrated and the barometer agrees with WeatherKit.
Frequently asked questions
Why isn't my speed showing?
The Drive screen needs a GPS lock. Step outside (or onto a clear-sky balcony), wait a few seconds, and you should see the speed update. Inside a building or under heavy cover, GPS will not work. iPhones use GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou — but they all need sky visibility.
The mic icon shows "Listening" but no RPM appears.
Dyno-mode RPM tracking needs your vehicle's engine type and cylinder count filled in on the Vehicle profile. Electric vehicles don't have an acoustic engine signature, so the app correctly disables mic-RPM for them. For combustion engines, do one or two dyno pulls so the app auto-calibrates the harmonic order — once it does, the RPM number appears live next to the speed.
My horsepower estimate seems way off.
HP accuracy depends almost entirely on three inputs on your Vehicle profile: total weight (curb + driver + cargo), drag coefficient, and frontal area. A 5% error in weight is a 5% error in HP. A 10% error in drag × area is a 10% error in HP at speed. Double-check those values from your manufacturer's spec sheet or measure them, then run "Recalculate saved runs" in Settings to re-derive HP for all your saved pulls.
If the numbers are still wrong, sanity-check the gear ratio you've set for the dyno gear, the final-drive ratio, and the tire rolling radius. A wrong gear ratio gives a wrong RPM, which gives a wrong engine torque.
How do I sync my runs across iPhones?
iCloud sync is on by default. Both devices need to be signed into the same Apple ID with iCloud Drive enabled. First sync after enabling can take a few minutes depending on how many runs you have. If the second device doesn't show your runs after ten minutes, check Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → TrackDyno on both devices and confirm sync is enabled there.
Can I export my run data?
Not in v1.0. The Share button on a saved run currently exports a shareable image card. Raw CSV / GPX export is on the roadmap for a future release.
How do I reset the acoustic RPM calibration?
Vehicle tab → tap your vehicle → scroll to the Engine section → tap "Reset calibration" beneath the harmonic-order readout. The next dyno pull will start fresh.
Does the app record audio?
No. The microphone is only used during a dyno pull, and only to compute the dominant engine harmonic frequency in real time through an on-device FFT. The underlying audio samples are processed in an ~85 millisecond sliding window and immediately overwritten — they are never recorded, stored, or transmitted.
How do I delete all my data?
Delete the TrackDyno app from your iPhone. If iCloud sync is on, also delete the TrackDyno data from your iCloud Drive: Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → TrackDyno → Delete Data.
Can I use TrackDyno on public roads?
No. TrackDyno is designed for closed courses, drag strips, autocross sites, and sanctioned track-day events. Using it to perform timed runs on public roads is a violation of the Terms of Use and probably also illegal wherever you are.
