Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how the TrackDyno iOS app ("TrackDyno", "we", "us") handles information about you. It applies to your use of the app and the TrackDyno website.
What the app reads from your phone
To produce the timing, dyno, and lap-session results that are the whole point of the app, TrackDyno reads the following data from your iPhone — only while the app is in use, unless background location is explicitly enabled by you for a lap session in progress:
- Precise location. GPS coordinates, speed, heading, and altitude from Core Location. Used to measure speed, distance, and acceleration. Requested with either "While Using" or, for in-progress lap sessions, "Always" authorization.
- Motion data. Accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and attitude data from Core Motion. Used for orientation-corrected G-force measurement, launch detection, and shift detection.
- Barometric pressure. Station pressure and relative altitude from the device's barometer (Core Motion altimeter). Used for the SAE J1349 atmospheric correction in horsepower estimates and for road-grade correction.
- Microphone audio. Used only during a dyno pull, only while the app is in the foreground, and only to compute the dominant engine harmonic frequency in real time via on-device FFT. Audio is never recorded, never stored, and never transmitted — the processing happens in a sliding ~85 millisecond window and the underlying samples are immediately overwritten.
What we do with it
All sensor data is processed entirely on your device, in real time, by the app code. The outputs (a "Run" record with its associated samples, lap markers, vehicle profile, and derived statistics) are written to one of two places, both of which only you can access:
- Local SwiftData store on your device.
- Your private CloudKit container in your personal iCloud account, if you are signed into iCloud and have iCloud Drive enabled. This sync is end-to-end controlled by Apple; we do not have access to your CloudKit container.
We do not transmit any of this data to ourselves or to any third party. We do not host any servers. We have no way to read your data even if we wanted to.
Third-party data flows
The app makes outbound network requests to Apple WeatherKit for current atmospheric conditions (temperature, pressure, humidity, condition) at your current location. These requests are made directly from your device to Apple's servers; we do not proxy or log them. Apple's own privacy policy and the WeatherKit attribution apply to that data flow: developer.apple.com/weatherkit/data-source-attribution.
TrackDyno does not use any other third-party SDKs, analytics frameworks, advertising networks, crash-reporting services, or attribution providers in its current version (1.0).
What we do NOT collect
- Name, email address, phone number, or any other directly identifying information.
- Contacts, photos, calendar, or any other personal content outside the sensor categories listed above.
- Usage analytics, session-replay data, crash logs, or other diagnostic telemetry sent to us.
- Identifiers for advertising or any tracking framework, including IDFA. The app does not request App Tracking Transparency authorization because it does not track.
Apple's required permissions
To function, the app requests these system permissions from iOS. You may revoke any of them at any time in Settings → TrackDyno; the corresponding feature simply stops working:
- Location While Using. Required for speed, distance, and acceleration.
- Location Always. Optional. Used only if you ask the app to keep recording during a lap session while your phone screen is locked.
- Motion & Fitness. Required for G-force, lean, and altitude.
- Microphone. Required only for dyno-mode RPM tracking. Audio is processed in real time and never saved or transmitted.
Children's privacy
TrackDyno is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If a parent or guardian believes their child has used TrackDyno and they would like to confirm that no data has been collected, contact us at the address below.
Your rights
Because no personal data leaves your device, there is no "data about you" for us to export, correct, or delete on our end. To delete your data: delete the app from your device and (if you used iCloud sync) delete the TrackDyno data from your iCloud Drive in Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → TrackDyno.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as GDPR (EU), UK GDPR, CCPA / CPRA (California), or similar. Those rights generally require us to provide, correct, or delete personal data on request. As noted above, we do not hold any personal data, so there is nothing on our end to provide, correct, or delete.
Changes to this policy
If we ever add features that would change what data flows where — for example, an optional cloud leaderboard, subscription billing through Apple, or third-party telemetry — we will update this policy with a new effective date and surface the change in the app the next time you open it.
